Over-gifting December 18, 2009

I’m so excited about the next couple of weeks!
I’ve had a lot of fun this week shopping for loved ones! I narrowed down my list of giftees a lot, so if you got a gift then you know you’re special! (if you didn’t it doesn’t mean you’re not, just that we never declared that we were exchanging) I used to make my giftee lists wayyy too long! I’d put everyone that I hung out with regularly on the list and of course never end up being able to complete it because of a mixture of lack of money and a realization that these people would just feel guilty if I gave them a gift and they didn’t give me one. I solved the problem by buying a few generic gifts, like cute boxes of holiday chocolates, so when some did get me something that I wasn’t expecting I could just say “Oh, I got you something, too!” and run back to my place to grab a gift for them!

I’m guilty of over-gifting! I love to buy things for loved ones and if I find things that I think you’ll like I just can’t resist! I don’t expect others to do the same, so don’t feel guilty if you didn’t! I’m like a 5-year-old on X-mas morning, when it’s not my turn I’m yelling “Open mine next!!!”

I’ve almost finished my gift list! The only people I have left to shop for are my brother and my roommate. I’ve gotta buy a few more things for Christopher (all counting as one gift, just multiple pieces).

I’ve got a busy couple of weeks ahead of me!

  • Going to Raleigh to celebrate early X-mas with Christopher’s family on the 23rd because their mom has to work on the 25th. I got a bit too much for their mom, but my mom and grandma talked me into just giving her the scarf I made and the box of peppermint bark and saving the stuff from Bath and Body Works for her birthday. Grandma said “she’ll think you’re trying to tell her something.” and I was like “Yeah, that I think she’s awesome!” Still, I’ve gotta learn that nobody likes an over-gifter…  Bleh!
  • Christopher’s coming back to my house with me after that to celebrate X-mas with my family and me  on the 25th! I’m still gonna overdo it with gifts for him, but I AM still holding back a little! At least I gave him fair warning that I went overboard because I want to spoil him!
  • A few days after X-mas Christopher and I are gonna go back to Raleigh for a night or two before continuing to Maryland to celebrate New Years with his mom’s ex-boyfriend (he’s still very close to the family and he’s getting married in May! Congratulations Sam and Donna!)
  • We’ll spend another night or two there before heading back to our respective parents’ homes for a few days before classes start again. Louise, my roomie, may come visit me! I hope she does because I’d love for her to meet my family and let me show her around Charlotte!

Happy holidays everyone! Regardless of what/whether you’re celebrating I hope you enjoy it!

Brains December 12, 2009

I think that the lack of ability or willingness to sympathize with other humans and/or creatures shows a lack of brain development.

“Don’t do unto others as you wouldn’t have them do unto you.” -Confucius

Afterthought:
Apparently a lot of scientists agree! Several university studies have shown that people with higher IQs are more likely to become vegetarians!

Lover’s Language December 9, 2009

I’ve realized that my boyfriend and I have developed our own language. Not really a cutesy type of thing, if I had to describe it as anything I would call it peculiar, that’s the nice way to say it anyway!
I just wanted to start recording the different phrases that, until now, only we would understand beyond face value.
So here goes:

Rice and beans: Referring to body odor or the armpit area.
200 Pounds: (Noun, verb) The act of grinding of one’s teeth. A mouth guard or a request for someone to put their mouth gaurd in (prevents the grinding of one’s teeth in their sleep).
Tension/’tention: Root word- Attention. Involves the invasion of one’s personal space, often in retribution for one’s seeking attention. Often involves tickling, poking, biting, licking, etc. all for the sake of annoying or disgusting the victim.
Brittany: (Adj.)(synonyms: Tracy, Nancy [any name ending in a y sound]) Disgusting, smelly, ugly, or otherwise undesireable.
Lips: (Verb) To kiss.
Chinese girl hiss: (Noun) Origin: (Nicole) Shangnen. Refers to a noise made in response to an annoying comment or to express disagreement.
e.g.: -”Those shoes are ugly”
-”Tsss!”
Popscockles: Origin: Metalocolypse. A synonym for popsicles.
Blose job: Origin: Metalocolypse. Nose bleed
Blanket girl: Also known as a Bed Girl, the Blanket Girl is an elusive creature who coccoons herself in a thick layer of blankets through the Winter months and sheds the layers in the Spring.

I’ll have to continue this later. It’s hard to think of all of them when I try to force myself, but we’ve certainly got more!
In the meantime, answer me this!

Ad Campaign December 6, 2009

So my school has a new ad campaign and it’s just awful!
These billboards are now all over the state of NC. I just have to share a few!

“Following your friends, that’s easy. Following your heart, that’s brave!”
(More like going to the same school that all of your friends are going to, that’s easy. Going to a school that no one’s ever heard of in the city with the highest number of STD cases in the state, that’s brave!)

“Knowing your professor’s name, that’s easy. Your professor knowing your’s, that’s brave!”
(This just makes it sound like the students here are really scary and even our professors are afraid of us!)

“LMAO, that’s easy. Studyin’ MAO, that’s brave!”
(Need I say more?)

These new billboards have aroused a lot of laughter, but I seriously doubt that they’ll attract any new students.

BUSY Week! November 8, 2009

This week was ridiculously busy! It got to the point where I was so mentally burned out that my body wasn’t allowing me to get anything accomplished, I wasn’t even forming coherent sentences by Friday.
I’m in the Tuition and Student Fee Committee for my school, Student Government thought it would be fitting since I’m the treasurer. This has involved waking up in time to dress fancy and make it to a meeting at 8:30am where we listen to requests from different departments on campus for increases in student fees. I had a lot of fun, I was really mad about the amount of money that the Athletic Department was requesting while the Education and Technology department didn’t even get half of what the Athletic department was recieving. This has led to me making a lot of people nervous in an attempt to get them as angry as I was and start a rebellion (or at least inspire some student involvement) mostly it just led to them changing the subject or talking to someone else. We had a referendum for the students on Tuesday, before we did the final deliberations and decided how much money we thought that each department should recieve. It was basically a bitch session that was intended to let the students grill the departments that were making the requests. I even surprised myself by dominating the majority of the referendum and attacking the Athletics department head. Afterwards the Athletics department head approached me and said “I can tell that you’re going to be very successful one day! Are you an accounting major?” (No, Journalism) “Even if you don’t like football, you should come by my office sometime to talk.” I have no idea why I would ever do that, but I told him I would for the sake of being polite. Hell, maybe he’ll offer me a job. It never hurts to pull in some extra money!
November 5 is the anniversary of when Christopher and I started dating. We took a break for this past Summer, but we’re ignoring that little detail and sticking with the original date for the sake of keeping things simple, plus it’s Guy Fawkes Day and there’s a rhyme that goes along with it, so I know he won’t ever forget! (remember, remember the 5th of November…)

2-year Anniversary!
The picture I drew as a gift for my guitar-obsessed boyfriend for our anniversary!

I had a presentation due on Friday. I was supposed to be talking about the components of a certain newspaper, I picked Creative Loafing because at least it’s interesting and if I was trying to kill time to reach the full required 20 minutes I could always make an activity out of having the class read the personals section (seriously, they’re pretty hilarious in this paper) and pick out their favorite. I found out that my professor, Dr. Judy’s, husband, another professor in my department, Dr. Tony had had a heart attack on Thursday night. Needless to say her class was cancelled. Dr. Tony had to have bypass surgery, I haven’t heard anything since. Christopher and I headed off to Fayetteville for our late celebration of our anniversary since I had more time on Friday and he wasn’t sick anymore. We decided to see a movie, we picked ‘The Men Who Stare at Goats’. I liked it, and I thought that George Clooney looked cute with long hippy hair, I even dug his moustache! Christopher thought that it was boring. Then we went off to eat dinner at a Japanese restaurant called Tai Sho, pretty good. I can only justify my sentence patterns at that point as the result of mental fatigue. At one point I managed to create a terrible disease known as ‘Fatal Heart Syndrome’ when Christopher (boyfriend) and I were at dinner on Friday and I was trying to explain how starvation diets could lead to heart problems. My mouth was moving a bit faster than my brain at that point.
I haven’t allowed myself to do anything school-related all day today. I’m attempting to keep my brain from exploding. It’s been a pretty boring Saturday, but my goal is to finish reading Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas before bed and hopefully start another book (reccommendations are welcome). Must get to the gym tomorrow…

Lots of traveling to do next week. Going to Chapel Hill on Wednesday night so that Arjay (Student Govt. President) and I can go to the Board of Govenors meeting to argue about a state tuition increase. then back to Pembroke that afternoon. Then I’m driving to Charlotte on Friday night, Tennessee Saturday for an aviation ceremony honoring my great grandfather. Back to Charlotte on Sunday and then back to Pembroke either that night or very early the next morning.

Good times! You’ll be sure to hear about it if you check back!
